Mental Health & Counselling

Compassionate support for children, teens, adults, and families.

You don’t have to keep carrying everything on your own.

At Galena Wellness, we offer counselling and psychology services in Calgary for children, teens, adults, and families. Whether you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, navigating trauma, or trying to better understand yourself, therapy can provide a place to slow down, feel supported, and begin moving forward with care.

Our mental health team includes a Registered Psychologist, Registered Provisional Psychologist, and Canadian Certified Counsellor, each offering thoughtful, evidence-informed support tailored to your unique needs.

What Is Mental Health Counselling?

Mental health counselling is a supportive, confidential process where you work with a trained therapist or psychologist to better understand your thoughts, emotions, behaviours, relationships, and experiences.

Therapy is not about being “broken” or having all the answers. It is about having a space where you can be honest, explore what’s happening beneath the surface, and develop tools that help you feel more grounded, connected, and capable.

Our therapists draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), attachment-based therapy, trauma-informed therapy, somatic approaches, mindfulness, and solution-focused strategies.

Because every person’s story is different, therapy is always tailored to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

How Can Counselling Help?

People come to counselling for many different reasons. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from support.

Counselling may help with:

Anxiety and excessive worry

Depression and low mood

Stress and burnout

ADHD and executive functioning challenges

Autism and neurodivergent experiences

Emotional regulation difficulties

Trauma and difficult life experiences

Relationship and family concerns

Self-esteem and identity

Grief and loss

Parenting challenges

Life transitions and personal growth

Therapy can help you better understand yourself, develop healthier coping strategies, improve relationships, and build greater resilience and self-compassion.

Our Approach

At Galena Wellness, we believe healing happens in relationship. We focus on creating an environment where clients feel safe, respected, and genuinely heard.

Our therapists work collaboratively with you, combining insight, practical tools, psychoeducation, and nervous system support to help create meaningful and lasting change.

We also recognize that mental health is connected to the whole person. Sleep, stress, physical health, sensory experiences, relationships, and life circumstances all influence wellbeing, which is why our counselling services fit naturally within our broader integrative approach to wellness.

Neurodivergent-Affirming Support

Many neurodivergent people have spent years feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed, or like they are constantly trying to keep up. You may have learned to mask your struggles, push through exhaustion, or wonder why everyday life feels harder than it seems to for other people.

At Galena Wellness, we offer neurodivergent-affirming therapy that respects different ways of thinking, processing, communicating, and experiencing the world. We work with children, teens, and adults, and our goal is not to help you become someone else. It is to help you better understand yourself, reduce unnecessary struggle, and build a life that works with your brain rather than against it.

We provide support for:

ADHD and executive functioning challenges

Autism and sensory processing differences

Emotional regulation difficulties

Masking and neurodivergent burnout

Anxiety, perfectionism, and self-criticism

Identity and self-understanding

Relationship and family dynamics

School, workplace, and life transitions

Supporting Children with Autism and Their Families

We recognize that every autistic child has their own strengths, challenges, communication style, and developmental needs. Our approach is compassionate, strengths-based, and family-centred, with support tailored to the child’s age, abilities, and goals.

Support may include:

Emotional regulation and coping strategies

Anxiety and attention-related support

Social skills and relationship development

Play-based therapeutic support

Communication and interaction support

Daily living and independence skills

Support with routines, transitions, and changing expectations

Behavioural consultation and individualized support planning

Parent consultation and practical strategies for home

Guidance for caregivers and support teams

Collaboration with schools and other professionals

We understand that supporting an autistic child often means supporting the whole family. Our aim is to help children feel safe, understood, and confident while providing parents and caregivers with practical tools, encouragement, and collaborative support along the way.

What to Expect

Your first session is an opportunity to get to know your therapist and talk about what has brought you in.

You can move at your own pace. Together, you will explore what is contributing to your current struggles, identify what feels most important, and develop a plan that feels supportive and realistic.

Some people come for a few sessions to work through a specific challenge, while others choose longer-term therapy for deeper healing and personal growth. There is no right timeline.

Is Counselling Right for Me?

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, emotionally reactive, or simply know that something isn’t working, counselling may be a helpful next step.

You do not need a diagnosis. You do not need to have everything figured out. You simply need a place to begin.

Our team supports children, teens, adults, and families across a wide range of concerns, and we are here to help you feel seen, supported, and empowered as you move toward greater wellbeing.

Cost

Counselling and psychology services are matched to each client’s age, needs, goals, and the professional whose training and expertise are the best fit. Some clients may benefit from specialized treatment, assessment, or a referral to another healthcare provider if additional support is needed.

Session fees start at $210/hr.

If you’re wondering whether counselling is the right fit, we’d be happy to help you find the therapist who best matches your needs and goals. Reaching out is often the hardest part, and you don’t have to do it alone. We’re here to help you find yourself again, and come back even better.

"I've done therapy before, but nothing felt quite like this. From the moment I met Mindy, I felt safe - like I didn't have to explain everything for her to just 'get it'. Her presence is calming, and she never rushed my process. Through our sessions, I finally felt understood, and for the first time in a long time, hopeful The combination of Neurofeedback and her gentle guidance has helped me come back home to myself.”
