Galena Wellness, a multidisciplinary health and wellness organization based in Calgary, Alberta, is exploring a collaborative international patient pathway with Inha University Hospital in Incheon, South Korea.

The vision is straightforward: help Canadians understand and navigate opportunities for specialized medical assessment and treatment in South Korea, while creating a structured pathway for support when they return to Canada.

For Galena Wellness, one question is central to the model:

What happens to the patient after they come home?

Why South Korea?

South Korea has developed a sophisticated healthcare system supported by advanced diagnostic technology, specialized hospitals and an established infrastructure for international patients.

Inha University Hospital is particularly well positioned geographically. Located in Incheon, near Incheon International Airport and within the greater Seoul metropolitan region, the hospital operates an International Healthcare Center supporting patients coming from abroad.

Its clinical capabilities span numerous specialties, including cancer and oncology, neurology and neurosurgery, cardiovascular care, robotic surgery, women's health and gynecology, fertility medicine, orthopedics and comprehensive health screening.

Inha also provides international-patient supports such as interpretation, test-result translation, concierge assistance and multilingual services.

Preventive Health Screening Is One Opportunity

One particularly interesting opportunity is Inha's 2026 Health Check-Up Program for International Patients.

The hospital has developed defined packages ranging from basic health examinations to gastrointestinal, cancer and premium screening.

Depending on the selected package, testing can include laboratory investigations, cardiovascular testing, ultrasound, endoscopy, colonoscopy, CT imaging, thyroid assessment, women's health screening and other investigations.

The premium program includes advanced investigations such as brain MRI/MRA, cardiac testing and CT imaging.

The published 2026 brochure also provides prices in Canadian dollars, making it easier for Canadian patients to understand the potential cost before deciding whether international care is appropriate for them.

Children's Health Is Another Important Area

Inha University Hospital has also developed dedicated Child Check-Up options.

Programs shown in its international-patient materials include general health evaluation for younger children, allergy screening for children seven and older, and male and female growth and puberty evaluations.

Depending on the program, assessments can incorporate laboratory testing, urinalysis, X-rays, bone-age evaluation and hormone-related investigations.

For Galena Wellness, this area is particularly relevant because our Calgary services already support children and families through psychology, autism and ADHD services, neurodevelopmental support, counselling and nervous-system regulation.

There may therefore be opportunities to explore how international medical assessments and Canadian multidisciplinary supports can complement one another—while keeping the roles of each healthcare provider clearly defined.

The Missing Piece: Coming Home

International healthcare can provide additional choices, but receiving care in another country creates an important challenge:

continuity of care.

A patient may receive an assessment, procedure or surgery overseas and then return thousands of kilometres home.

Importantly, this model is not intended to transfer responsibility for Inha's medical diagnosis or treatment to Galena.

Inha University Hospital and its physicians would remain responsible for the medical services they provide in South Korea. Galena professionals would provide services in Canada within their respective professional scopes.

That distinction is fundamental to developing a safe and sustainable international pathway.
